Comparison
PromptSmart vs ScriptAssist
PromptSmart and ScriptAssist both scroll your script as you speak, and both process your voice on your own device. Beyond that, they are built for different jobs. PromptSmart is a teleprompter suite with iOS and Android apps, a Studio Edition desktop app for Windows and macOS, and web tools for editing scripts and controlling the prompter remotely. ScriptAssist is a Windows app built around Microsoft PowerPoint: your speaker notes are the script, reviewers edit in Word, and you can see how long each slide will run.
Here is an honest look at what each one does well, and who each one fits.

What PromptSmart is great at
Both apps follow your voice as you speak, processed on your device with no internet connection needed, so voice scrolling is not where the two differ. The one voice difference is languages: PromptSmart's VoiceTrack, which the company describes as patented, is listed in English, Spanish, French, Russian and German, while ScriptAssist is English only.
Where PromptSmart goes further is a full production toolkit. The mobile apps put the text beside the front camera in Selfie Mode and record in up to 4K, and Story Blocks let you record a run of short videos one after another. A Remote Control app and a browser-based Control Room let an operator drive the prompter, you can mirror text for teleprompter glass, and the web portal can push edits to every signed-in device. If you record video, run a studio or event prompter, or work across phone, tablet and desktop, PromptSmart is built for that.
Where ScriptAssist is different
Your speaker notes are the script
ScriptAssist reads and writes the speaker notes already in your PowerPoint deck. There is no second document to keep in sync and nothing to paste into another tool. Edit a slide's script, save, and the deck you present from carries the change. If your talk starts life as a PowerPoint deck, your script is ready the moment you open the file.
Review in Word, then bring the edits back
Scripts often have to pass a manager, a subject-matter expert, or a legal, medical or compliance reviewer. Doing that by hand means building a Word table, pasting in slide images, waiting for edits, then copying every change back into the notes one slide at a time.
ScriptAssist does the round trip for you. It exports the script to a Word document in a Table or Thumbnails layout. Reviewers need only Word: no account and no install, and they can mark it up with Track Changes the way they already do. When the file comes back, ScriptAssist matches it to your deck by slide number and imports only the slides that changed. Changed slides are flagged in orange and conflicts (slides you also edited in PowerPoint after exporting) in red, and you see each change before you accept it. Only the speaker notes change, and every save keeps a backup of the previous file.
As of version 2.14, you can also put your own logo on the Word title page, or leave the logo off, and the title page shows who created the document.
Know how long every slide runs
Presentation Timing estimates your talk from the words in each slide's notes at your speaking pace, with subtotals by section and a running total for the deck. Enter a target time and the slides most likely to push you over are highlighted, so you know where to trim before you rehearse. While you present, an optional pacing meter shows whether you are on pace for the current slide, the whole talk, or both. It is included in Standard and Pro.
Made for presenting slides on camera
The On-Camera Script sits in a strip just under your webcam, so reading and eye contact are the same motion. It is excluded from screen sharing and recording by Windows, so you can share your whole screen with your live slides on Zoom, Teams or Webex and your audience sees your slides and your face, never your words. Five present modes cover video calls, a script over your live slides, rehearsal, and operator-run events, and you can drive them with the clicker you already use. VoiceSync (Pro) scrolls the script as you speak using a speech model on your computer, so no audio is uploaded and no internet connection is needed.

- Studio and event setups: remote control from another device or a browser, duplicate displays, and mirrored text for teleprompter glass.
- Voice tracking in English, Spanish, French, Russian and German.

Which should you use?
Choose PromptSmart if
- You record videos on a phone or tablet.
- You run a teleprompter rig or an event where an operator controls the prompter.
- You work on a Mac, or across mobile and desktop.
- Your scripts live in Word, PDF or Google Docs rather than in a PowerPoint deck.
- You need voice tracking in Spanish, French, Russian or German.
Choose ScriptAssist if
- You present from PowerPoint on Windows and your script already lives in the speaker notes.

- You have a fixed time slot and want to see which slides run long before you rehearse.
- You share your whole screen with live slides on Zoom, Teams or Webex and need the script kept out of the share.
- You want AI help drafting a spoken script for a slide when the notes are empty.
Frequently asked questions
Is ScriptAssist a good PromptSmart alternative for PowerPoint presenters?
Yes, if you present from PowerPoint on Windows. ScriptAssist reads the speaker notes in your deck, so there is no script to import or sync, and it adds a Word review round trip and slide-by-slide timing. If you record video on a phone or tablet, run a teleprompter rig with an operator, or work on a Mac, PromptSmart covers those and ScriptAssist does not.
Can PromptSmart read my PowerPoint speaker notes?
Importing PowerPoint files is not listed on PromptSmart's site. Its help center lists DOCX, PDF, RTF and Google Docs as import formats, and scripts can also be pasted in or written in its web editor. ScriptAssist uses the speaker notes already in your deck as the script and writes your edits back to them.
Do both work without an internet connection?
For voice scrolling, yes. PromptSmart says VoiceTrack processes audio locally on your device and does not need the internet. ScriptAssist's VoiceSync runs on a speech model installed with the app, so no audio leaves your computer and no connection is needed.
Will my script show if I share my whole screen?
In ScriptAssist, the On-Camera Script and Overlay Script are excluded from screen capture by Windows, so you can share your whole screen with live slides and your audience never sees the script. PromptSmart's site describes a semi-transparent window you can layer over your meeting, but whether it is hidden from a screen share is not listed on their site.
How does pricing compare?
As listed on each company's site on October 8, 2026: PromptSmart's Starter Pack is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and Team is $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year. ScriptAssist Standard is $15 a month or $12 a month billed annually, and Pro, which adds the AI Script Assistant and VoiceSync, is $24 a month or $19 a month billed annually. Both offer a 7-day free trial.
Is there a Mac version of ScriptAssist?
Not yet. ScriptAssist runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) with Microsoft PowerPoint, because the capture-exclusion technology it relies on is Windows-specific. PromptSmart's Studio Edition runs on Windows and macOS.
